The world of craft brewing has exploded over the last decade. For me, it all started back in 2011 with Bell’s Two Hearted Ale. That beer opened my eyes of what craft beer should taste like and what I was missing by simply buying cases of Miller Lite.
Now, the amount of options craft beer drinkers have available to them is mind boggling. With over 7,500 local breweries spread out across the United States, everyone has access to some of the best beer you’ll ever have.

The January 2019 update on #breweries #brewery and #tastingrooms #tastingroom locations in #SanDiego. SD is now home to 160 breweries (+3 compared to December) and 43 tasting rooms (+1) as of the end of January 2019.
13 Point Brewing is Lemon Grove’s first brewery, and San Diego’s first brewery opened in 2019. It is a nice spot and they are off to a great start. #craftbeer #craftbrewery #sdbeer
The list of all the breweries that opened and closed in San Diego County in 2018.
For a fun, interesting beer tour in Miramar that doesn’t require transportation between breweries, check out the Miralani Makers District. #craftbeer #beercation #beertour
A guide to touring breweries and tasting rooms in the Miramar area of San Diego. 17 breweries and 2 tasting rooms justify the “Beeramar” moniker. #beercation #breweries #craftbeer
Craving an authentic pub experience? Fourpenny House is as close to a Scottish pub as you’ll find in San Diego. The beer and food and very good, and the atmosphere is excellent.
Small net growth of 2% in San Diego craft breweries over 2017, but a whole lot of interesting detail and context led to that result. Check out my “SD Beer in 2018” post.
Despite the sad closing of two Council Brewing locations, Acoustic Ales not having current production, and a scare for Benchmark Brewing, the opening of Double Peak Brewing in San Marcos and the start of contract-brewing-while-it-builds-out for Harland Brewing means San Diego craft beer saw only a net decrease of 1 brewery in December 2018.
Helia Brewing Co. has hit a home run with their lovely tasting room and excellent beer.
There are now four breweries and a tasting room in a tight grouping in Barrio Logan, making it an excellent destination for a beer tour. #beercation #beertour #sdbeer #craftbeer #craftbrewery
Melvin’s large, elegant tasting room is excellent, and so is the beer.
You like burgers and beer. They sell burgers and beer.
Embarcadero Brewing in National City is also a home brew supply shop. The friendliness and expertise of the staff makes this a great place to go drink beer while you talk about beer. And the beer is good, too. #sdbeer #craftbeer
Oggi’s has two new beers, and they are pretty good. This is my first visit to the original, Del Mar, location.
A new Barrio Logan brewery with a beer hall vibe, fun graphical design, a multicultural approach and eventually a kitchen. Attitude Brewing makes a good addition to the Barrio Logan craft beer scene.
There are now TWO HUNDRED San Diego breweries and tasting rooms (including six non-craft breweries and one non-craft tasting room). Add to that the 14 non-San Diego craft brewpubs and…well, that’s a lot of beer. The net increase since last month is three, and the coming six weeks should see at least four new spots open.
Just a few months old at the time I visited, Creative Creature Brewing has a small though nice set up. They join a fairly crowded craft beer landscape in La Mesa/El Cajon/Santee.
