Hot take: Vista is the real #craftbeer heart of San Diego County. Vista’s 19 breweries+3 tasting rooms are more than North Park (14), East Village (11), even Miramar (16). The nation’s best peanut butter stout is either at Belching Beaver, Mother Earth or Bear Roots, 0.2mi apart
Earlier this year, the Mikkeller Brewery in Miramar undertook a tasting room renovation. It turned out well. The beer menu seems to have changed from a couple of years ago, too.
In 2019 San Diego saw a net increase of 3 breweries (from 157 to 160, +1.9%) and 14 tasting rooms (from 42 to 56, +33%). This overall addition of 17 locations (from 199 to 216) is an overall 8.5% increase. That’s higher than 2018’s overall 7.3% increase in locations, and the same as 2018’s 2% growth in the number of breweries. Ten breweries and 3 tasting rooms closed down in 2019.
With ELEVEN changes to the list, Dec 2019 has to be one of the most active months ever in #sdbeer. #SanDiego saw 4 #breweries change categories, 1 open and 2 close. 160 breweries + 56 tasting rooms = 216 locations, one less than Nov. Look for SEVEN additions in early 2020!
The “inland” part of Oceanside has four breweries you can drink at (and one you can’t). But if you are looking for a “special” craft beer experience, this is probably not the tour you are looking for. #sdbeer #indiebeer #localbeer

This 1.2 mile beer tour of the downtown area of Oceanside takes you to five of Oceanside’s ten breweries and tasting rooms. #sdbeer #craftbeer #localbeer #indiebeer
Below, I’ve copied a press release that blew the socks off craft beer commentators. Here are links to my coverage…

Nov 2019 San Diego brewery update: Three closings and four openings leave us with 161 breweries and 56 tasting rooms for a grand total of 217 brewery locations in San Diego County.
Dogleg Brewing Co. soft opened Nov. 8, 2019, next door to the new Eppig brewery in Vista, just down the block from Helia Brewing. I’m calling this the Keystone Kraft Kbeer Krawl (the ‘k’ on “Kbeer” is silent, of course).
The Sanctuary, Lost Abbey’s second tasting room, opened at the end of October 20-19 in San Elijo Hills. It is a lovely room in a lovely village, with front and back patios. And, of course, the beer is great.
In October 2019, one brewery opened (Eppig in Vista) and one brewery changed categories from “no tasting room” to “with tasting room” (Harland in Scripps Ranch). There are now 156 craft and 5 non-craft breweries in San Diego County (net +1), 54 craft and 1 non-craft tasting rooms (no net change), for a grand total of 216 locations (net +1).
Harland Brewing Co.’s has opened a tasting room at their Scripps Ranch brewery. It is good.
Small and slapdash but maybe what you are looking for in the center of Escondido.
October 18, 2019, marks the third anniversary since the start of this brewery quest blog. Cheers to three years!
The Invigatorium is really about coffee, but they have six Modern Times beer taps, too. This tasting room joins a thriving craft beer scene in East Village.
