Kilowatt Brewing Taproom & Provisions, Oceanside
I wrote about the grand opening of Kilowatt’s new tasting room for Coast News. I won’t repeat everything I said there, here. But I will add the details of my tasting experience.
S3 Mandarin Orange Sour (fruited sour beer, 3.2% ABV). This is a nice beer. Reminds me a bit of a sour orange candy, or a subtle orange Fanta. Refreshing. 3.5/5
IPL (India Pale Lager, 7% ABV). Lightly malty, clean, nice level of hop bitterness (not overpowering), with some citrus and maybe pine notes. A light burn/bitterness lingers on the finish, which diminished it for me so I gave it a 3.25/5. Note that on Untappd it is rated a significantly higher 3.75, so maybe this beer is just not for me and will be very much to your liking.
Pale Ale (5.4% ABV). I like this one. There’s a tad too much burn on the finish (can’t tell if it is alcohol, but it shouldn’t be at this ABV; maybe hops?). Otherwise a balanced and flavorful pale ale edging into IPA flavors/bitterness. Malty/bready flavors playing well with floral/fruity hops. 3.5/5
150 KWH (Session IPA, 4.7% ABV). Must be a very different beer than previous batches I’ve tried under the same name. This is very good. Light and crisp, a delicate biscuity malt balanced with a slightly piney and tropical hop note, and moderate-high bitterness. The head is large/separate bubbles but persists. 3.75/5
Its a good spot. Check them out.
