Yeast Comparison Wizard
Many yeast strains share characteristics or are the same across different brands. However, some of these qualities — such as optimal temperature, attenuation, and flavors — are not similar enough; you probably shouldn't use them interchangeably. Use our yeast comparison wizard to see how up to three different yeast stack up against each other. Try our hop comparison tool as well!

Brewing Values
Alcohol Tolerance
The alcohol tolerance determines the ABV at which yeast cells go dormant and stop fermenting.
No yeast chosen yet.
Attenuation
Attenuation refers to the percentage of sugars converted to alcohol and carbon dioxide, as measured by specific gravity.

Flocculation
Flocculation refers to the tendency of yeast to form clumps called "flocs" that drop in order to make the beer clear.

Optimal Temperature
The optimal temperature is the range in which the yeast performs best without putting off any off-flavors. Pitch at the low end of the range.

Composition
POF
Yeast that carry the POF gene create 4-Vinyl Guaiacol (4VG) phenols, which are known for creating off-flavors.

STA-1
This strain may have the ability to metabolize dextrins over time, resulting in higher than expected attenuation.

Bacteria
Yeast that contain bacteria, produce funky flavors and sometimes hard to predict. Typically used in sours.

Data Sources
The data we used to build this tool came from many, many sources. While some yeast have well established information on them, others not so much. We've manually curated this data by scouring hundreds of websites, research papers and marketing material from yeast banks and sellers. We've done our best to accurately provide as much information as possible for each yeast strain inside our database. This tool is a one-of-a-kind product that you can only find on Beer Maverick. We take pride in or ability to produce quality tools for the brewing community.
