Beer Style Description
This is the description of how the European-Style Dark Lager style of beer should taste, feel and look. However, there may be perfectly fine beers in this style that fall outside of these ranges and descriptions. This information is just to show the most commonly accepted ranges for the European-Style Dark Lager beer style.
These beers offer a fine balance of sweet maltiness and hop bitterness.
- Color: Light brown to dark brown
- Body: Low to medium-low
- Malt Flavors & Aromas: Low to medium with chocolate, roast, and malt aromas and flavors present.
- Hop Flavors & Aromas: Very low to low with attributes typical of noble-type hops.
- IBUs/Bitterness: Medium-low to medium-high
- Fermentation Characteristics: Fruity esters and diacetyl should not be present.
