The world of craft brewing has exploded over the last decade. For me, it all started back in 2011 with Bell’s Two Hearted Ale. That beer opened my eyes of what craft beer should taste like and what I was missing by simply buying cases of Miller Lite.
Now, the amount of options craft beer drinkers have available to them is mind boggling. With over 7,500 local breweries spread out across the United States, everyone has access to some of the best beer you’ll ever have.

The first of three breweries to open in the North Park Brewery Igniter, Eppig is off to a roaring start. RECOMMENDED
The large Coronado brewing facility in the Bay Park neighborhood off the 5 just north of downtown also functions as a popular neighborhood bar for locals and a place to get beer to go.
One of the original craft breweries that got the movement started in San Diego. They still brew award-winning beers and serve them in a comfortable sports bar atmosphere with good pub food.
Poor House produces some awesome beers on their 3-barrel system, and they serve it up with a great attitude in their divey-and-fun tap room. RECOMMENDED
The Stone Company Store on Kettner serves up a wide variety of Stone brews for drink-in and take-home.
Acoustic Ales Brewing Experiment is a sure bet. RECOMMENDED
Hillcrest Brewing Company has one of the best “Hoppy Hours” you’ll find, and it is a warm, welcoming place.
Automatic Brewing, housed inside the award-winning Blind Lady Ale House, makes a small number of brews that are supplied to this location and the sister restaurant, Tiger! Tiger!
The short drive from San Diego is definitely worth it for Alpine’s justly famous brews.
ChuckAlek Biergarten offers “old world” beers in a relaxed and beautiful urban garden at the heart of North Park’s craft beer scene. RECOMMENDED.

The original Pizza Port location is just a few block from the beach and serves up tasty pizza and good beer in a family-friendly atmosphere at very reasonable prices.

Gordon Biersch could be considered the grand-daddy of brew pubs. Its German-inspired beers have helped it grow an national and even international presence.
The brewery and tasting room of Bolt Brewery in La Mesa is a great place to unwind on an afternoon or evening. Outdoor seating under an awning, nice landscaping and good design add to the experience provided by friendly servers who give you good beer. RECOMMENDED.
Modern Times Flavordome in North Park surprised me: My initial impression on walking by was wrong, and this turned out to be a pleasant place to enjoy very good beer.
